Angle Management
Duration: 1 week

The “Angle Management” Project

The goal of Angle Management is to help students apply, meaning to form, intellect to object, and the ideals of balance, harmony & symmetry. Students will be creating a potter’s wheel and spinning art pieces to evoke all angles of human emotion.

Scope of Work

Every team of two (2) students is responsible for creating a potter’s wheel. The methods of spinning are up to each team. The students will also create original spinning art pieces. The following materials & tools will be provided for analysis:
-- One Circular Particle Board (12” outside diameter (OD))
-- Tempera Paint
-- Dixie Cups
-- Popsicle Sticks
-- 12" by 12" Cardstock
-- Painters Tape

Potter’s Wheel
Spinning Art Pieces

Requirements

The Potter’s Wheel must:
-- Maintain a high, but safe, angular velocity for a given amount of time
-- Be on a raised platform

The Spinning Art Pieces must have:
-- Symmetry and/or waves
-- Intellectual substance
-- Include an artist description giving meaning to form

Judging Criteria

The varying weights for the following criteria will determine the overall score.
-- Craftsmanship of Potter’s Wheel
-- Creativity of Spinning Art Pieces
-- Use of Math and Physics
-- Work Ethic

Safety

By participating in Angle Management, the students are agreeing to all the safety issues discussed in class.

Submittal

Please submit the following:
-- Potter’s Wheel
-- Spinning Art Pieces
-- Pictures of Potter’s Wheel and Spinning Art Pieces with Descriptions and Reflections on Digital Portfolio
